A first rate thriller from the mind of Tom Clancy!

I remember first seeing this picture on pay per view back in early 1993, and my reaction was high postive one. I immediately recognized Harrison Ford from his Star Wars and Indiana Jones films, and this was the first time I seen him play in an intelligent political thriller from the creative mind of Tom Clancy. I also recognized the name of the character Ford was portraying on screen; Jack Ryan; the CIA analyst who was first portrayed by Alec Baldwin in the submarine thriller The Hunt For Red October. Now filling the shoes for his third character recognince, Harrison Ford takes us through the adventure and espionage of CIA agent Jack Ryan in this first rate thriller from the unique mind of best seller novelist Tom Clancy.

In this picture which takes place several years after the events in The Hunt For Red October, Jack Ryan has retired from the CIA and has gone on to living life as a Professor in Langley and spending time with his family. While vactioning in London, England Ryan foils an assassanation attempt on an important member of the Royal Family. When the splinter group that staged the attack set their sights on Ryan they start by harming his family. As a result, Ryan is drawn back into CIA and is determined bring his attackers to justice.

This is an outstanding thriller, a movie I have had the privilage of enjoying from start to finish, Harrison Ford was splendidly cast as the patriotic and honor bound CIA agent Jack Ryan. Patriot Games is a very well done action picture with Harrison Ford at the helm and taking the audience on a first rate thrill ride through the structure of the Central Intelligence Agency. What is also decent about this picture is that the character Jack Ryan is not fighting for preservation of his country or for his honor, but for his family. When his family is threatened by the splinter group, he retaliates in rejoining the CIA and commits to his war on the terrorists. Jack Ryan is one of those unique characters who comes from the very pages of Tom Clancy's novel. Director Phillip Noyce does a splendid job directing this fine action thriller that gives the audience what they always wanted; a look into the walls of their Secret organization, a character who is driven by the foundations of his country, and plenty of first rate action that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
