A Sure Bette

star33

All right, so why the promising title with a 3 star rating?. Actually, I should have given it two stars, because I like the two leads-- or just one star because, well... I love seeing Bette up on that screen. She is, as always, glowing, vibrant, enduringly real. And unlike Barbra's current journey to disaster, Bette sings-- and dances a bit too. It's only one scene, but certainly the movie's hi-light. You Bette it is!
Le Mis is grand and noble, and maybe this little uneven comedy doesn't measure up, but at least I could follow the plot. By the end of Le Mis, I was nearly comatose. They rushed me to the emergency room where the head medic diagnosed it as an overdose of Eponine, an antiquated French drug which, in its time, was thought to be revolutionary. And Parental Guidance isn't much funnier than that bad joke. (But go to see the divine Miss M.)
