ParaNorman(2012)- User Reviews

I saw the "three star" rating on yahoo movies and almost didn't go. Then I looked deeper into the reviews, and got why the ratings were dragged down...

I read the review on MovieMom (super helpful in deciding whether to take my kids or not) and decided to go went with my middle-school aged daughter and we both loved it. Some of the images would be frightening for some younger kids.

It's funny, it's scary, the depiction of kid alienation connects. It shows tons of family dynamics that we can all identify with, and - being a feel-good-inspirational type of film, by the end everyone steps up to being caring, accepting, and going past one's fears....

My daughter laughed at the "boyfriend" comment. I found it a refreshing surprise from the usual cookie-cutter stuff in movies. The character is in high school and that's a common age to have a boyfriend or girlfriend. If he had said "girlfriend" no one would have blinked an eye, so it's not really about age appropriateness, it's about sexual orientation.

All the expressive characters were done in stop-motion - it really is amazing to watch.
