No number of colorful birds and blooming flowers can make up for ludicrous costuming, bad scripting, direction enslaved to special effects, and irritating cliche characters. I hated the actors too. Except Rachel Weisz who managed pretty well. Danny Elfman's waltz was beautiful and the china doll was the best character - and she was digital. Liked the old fashioned opening credits. They tried to set the stage for the film we all grew up on - how the wizard got there, who all the witches are, etc. But left out the ruby slippers - the critical key to the entire plot of The Wizard of Oz. Bad choice. I just hate it when movie makers throw special effects at you and don't even bother with good scripts, acting, plotting, or direction.
