Oz: The Great and Powerful(2013)- User Reviews

"Oz" as in "lOZt"

Plodding slow expository period. Wholly unlikeable actor in the lead. One-dimensional characters whose motivations are shallow and never fully explained. Bad writing: "We must avoid the deadly poppy fields!" "Why?" Seriously? They're DEADLY poppy fields, you dolt! Anachronistic expressions. Off kilter moments like telling China Doll that Thomas Alva Edison invented the light bulb...while she is in bed beside a nightstand with a lamp on it that has a--wait for it--ELECTRIC LIGHT BULB, even though Edison is unknown in this land. At the end of the day, even with a solid performance by Kunis and a couple of worthwhile supporting nods, this film lacks the charm of The Wizard of Oz and never offers a satisfying emotional or intellectual catharsis. And at $13.50 for the 3D version, just not worth it!
