I agree they could have done better with the Ranger casting. Loved the movie hope they do make another.

loved the first movie but would have liked to see Duane Johnson as Ranger and Debbie Reynolds as the mom with Betty White as Grandma

I dont know why I go to see the movies that r made out of books like this one. Janet goes to such depths to characterize people like Morelli with his "soft chocolate eyes" and then they cast an Irishman to prtray him. Ditto on Ranger and Stephanie, not to mention Grandma M. I could have done a better job casting this and I have no experience. Most of us are true JE fans have read the books over and over, always to be let down by Hollywood.

I totally agree!!! I was just telling my bf about Grandma Mazur. I think Betty White may have been a good one for that role!!! and the person playing Ranger is a disappointment!!! I pictured him to be a bit darker with a ponytail and bigger! I was sitting here trying not to ruin the movie for my bf!! LOL I have read the books so many times!! JE is my most favorite author of all time!

I love the books, but I had a feeling she was wrong for the part. Plus, seems like she has attitude issues with cast members, from what I gather...I'll wait to see Sherri Shephard!

Read the book. Liked the book. Saw the movie. Hated the movie. Casting is terrible. Hokey, campy.

I think the only time I hear my girlfriend laugh is when she reads these books, or watches "Miss Congeniality." Going to see it today, hope it is funnier than some of the reviews. She had some of the same concerns as others with the casting. Heigl just doesn't fit the image of the character and Morelli is played by an Irishman! I think Lulu was the only character well cast.

I agree. Basically the whole problem with this movie is casting. I might add to your list Queen Latifah for the role of Lula

Yes! Queen Latifah has the chops to have played the hell out of Lula...but somehow the role seems beneath her, considering the rest of the cast.

When I first read this, and thought they really should make a movie out of this, Queen Latifah was always the one I saw playing Lulu in my mind. I have not gone to see the movie because I was so disappointed in how they cast the parts. The books are laugh out loud funny, and had so much potential. Makes me wonder if they even READ the book before they cast the parts.

All parts seemed miscast. Hair, makeup and wardrobe were not even mildly Trenton, maybe they were going for an upscale neighborhood (Princeton) look. Big hair, heavy makeup, tight/short skirts, knee boots were needed. Trenton has a sound and cadence to speech that wasn't there. Ranger and Joe were both sadly disappointing. Apparently screenwriter and casting director didn't read the books and have never been to Jersey - especially Trenton.

Not the worst thing I've wasted money on, but definitely not the greatest, either. The the books would have translated better into a cable television series. (i.e.True Blood or Dexter)

Adam Rodriguez would have made an excellent Ranger.

when I first heard the book was going to be a movie, my friends and I were choosing actors for the characters. Adam Rodriguez was my choice too. dark, sexy & hot! I would have I liked Evangeline Lilly as Stephanie, and a "more Italian" Joe. I think Jason is actually Irish...

Whoa! I am from Jersey and I know we pronounce Newark, Nork, not Newark. What is with tthe people here that are so Hollywood? Get some good NY actors or real NJ folks! Anyone from NJ will hate this movie. Thebooks were so great, why do they stink up the movie? You neeed a petite Young Stephanie, no more than 27 or 28, and a younger Morelli and a much suaver Latino for Ranger. This was way miscast! did they give Evanovich any say inhow this movie was presented? It was not good at all! And the Lula part even needed a better job done. That part could have been developed much more. Disappointed!

For the record: I liked the movie.
Ok, the books were GREAT! We all know that each of us has their own perception of each character in the book and our perceptions won't agree so why does anyone think we'd agree with the director?? I read all the S.Plum books and, frankly, my perception exactly agreed with the role as played by Katharine Heigl (and I think she did a good job). I think the casting of the other parts was ok... some better than others (Lula great, Morelli ok). I went to the theater to be entertained... and I was entertained. (mission accomplished). I really hope they make more of the books into movies and use the same cast.
If it was me, I would have had Janet Evanovich in a cameo shot. Oh, Vinnie needs lots more 'sleaze'......Lula needs lots more spandex :-)

I think they did a good job of casting most of the people. Everyone's picture of characters is different in their heads, but I like Daniel Sunjata as Ranger. He could be a little more mysterious in the movie, but other than that, he is a good fit in my book. I was a little skeptical of the guy playing Morelli, but he did a great job. Heigl as Stephanie is an excellent choice. Keeping my fingers crossed that they continue making the movies.

On a budget of $43 million getting Bullock, the Rock, and Betty Wight would be impossible.

I took my favorite girls (my 4 daughters and my grand daughter) to see a movie written by one of my favorite writers on Saturday. I have read all 18 books and they are laugh out loud funny. My girls, two of which have not read the books, and the three that have - loved the show and we hope there will be another one soon. After the show we all went shoe shopping and had dinner at Sam's Club in Steph's honor.

Joe Morelli should of been played by Antonio Sabato Jr. he's actually Italian and hot!!!
I'm sure they could of found a Cuban actor to play Ranger, didn't get the "mysterious Ranger" effect from the dude on Grey's Anatomy. Heigl was a terrible Stephanie Plum period. Sherry Shephard did a really good job as Lula at least the they did pick out one character right!!
