Jet Li's action packed history trilogy Once Upon a Time in China continues with the second sequel. This time Wong Fei Hung and Foon venture off to see Wong Fei Hung's father. They have found a martial arts tournament known as The Lion King tournament in which competitors square off against one another wearing a Chinese Lion costume. However, these seemingly harmless competitions Wong finds are brutal and sets off to stop it. At points the film can drag and the incoherent romance between Wong and Aunt Yee gets tiresome but I have to say it's better than the disappointing first sequel. Fight scenes are love or hate pending on who you talk to, but I found them extraordinarily inventive and fun to watch. If you liked the first film, check this one out.
