In the late 60's to mid 70's, apparently everybody in Hollywood was on serious hallucegenic drugs. Somebody must've said "we've made movies about every possible giant killer mutant animal/insect/lizard/aquatic creature etc etc". Then somebody said "what about cute fluffy bunnies". It just makes you wonder, how did somebody present this script, get it approved, then somebody else said "here's a bunch of money, go make it" and actors/actresses agreed?
The rest is history. The story has been done countless times, the "fill in the blank" creature is a unique and ridiculous which makes it all worthwhile. Plus the all star cast.
I wonder if this film inspired the killer bunny in Python's Holy Grail.
