Chrismas Vacation is a great improvment over European Vacation, and is usually funny, but is to uneven and, even at 90 minutes, contains to much padding.
The Griswalds stay home for chrismas, and what could go wrong? They arent even leaving the house. First they get a tree that takes up the whole living room, then relatives start showing up. Clark wants the biggest lighting display in town, and starts stapling lights to the roof to do it. Some laughes ensue. It gets pretty funny when cousin Eddie shows up in his camper with his redneck family. Some jokes are great, others are awful.
I could have done with out the snooty neighbors who dont offer us a single laugh. There are a lot of other subplots that could have been left out.
It is pretty funny, but there is little replay value to be found, and like I said, there are to many little things I didnt like. **1/2(Out of ****)
