Jennifer Jason Leigh is always excellent, but in this movie she is transcendent. She is boozy, sassy, sexy, cynical, beautiful and brilliant, exactly like one imagines Dorothy Parker.

Alan Rudolph perfectly captures the atmosphere of high-literati, but not high-income society of New York in the 1920's. It is also his best movie.
