decent
monument is a movie by ted demme, about an irish family who encounters trouble within their own borders. unlike scorcese and his movies about italian crime, this movie goes more sentimental. drawing sentiment for the character bobby, played by dennis leary, it chronicles his existence with the irish gang, it is asort of mean streets for the irish, with gangsters stealing cars and hanging out in bars. it is a decent movie to watch, though it is not on caliber with scorcese's gritty view into italian mobster life. not particularly strong in any point it tries to bring, it comes across as a movie that opens your eyes a bit, but does not effect you much. not a bad movie to watch, it does keep interest and very few movies have tackled the issue of irish crime families. though i applaud demme for trying to take on this topic, it just does not seem gritty enough to be about an irish gang, and tries to draw its appeal through sentiment. overall the movie is just that, a movie; not too bad but not too great. watch it if your bored.
