Monty Python and the Holy Grail(1975)- User Reviews

Story- The story is really full of humor and the quest to find the grail leads to a lot of random British humor and the Midieval times are really done well, and this movie makes fun of in such beautiful ways the different rituals and practices of this time period. When the quest ends, you are still yearning for more and really fall in love with the characters and setting. The plot is actually pretty good for a comedy, and makes sense for a movie based on the middle ages. There are just so many memorable moemnts, quotes, and songs that it is hard not to fall in love with this movie upon first view. The ending is either a like or hate, but I found it creative and very different than every other movie out there, and the song at the end is one of my favorites and really catchy.

Acting- Simplay amazing, these guys can act, they are funny, and have great British accents. They don't even try to sound funny, but have the ability to humor anyone without even trying to talk in a weird voice. The singing is pretty good and so are the women that are played by men, it is just funny and these men have great voices that can be placed very well into many characters.

Direction- The movie really builds up on the quest and gets funnier and funnier as it progresses. The ending kind of lets you down becuase you want more. Overall, this is classic but I'll have to admit, no hate here. A few things that occured weren't as funny as I thought they would be. Yeah I admired them and Monty Python wouldn't be the same without those scenes, but I just didn't find them as funny.

Visuals- Pretty good and for a movie of the 70s they use a lot of great animations and props. Props are what made this movie, but I have to admit there are a quite a few cheesy animations and fight scenes but that is what makes this movie and adds to the sarcastic mood. The cheesy animations and scenes add more to the greatness and corniness of the film.

Overall- I think it is a very great movie and very funny,but I wouldn't rank it among the best of all time, Certainly a well thought out comedy and the acting is superb, but there certainly were a few things that did make the movie a little under par to other comedies, but still, it is great for what it is and worth the time of wathching. It is worth a rental to anyone, please rent it, it is worth it, and if you are skeptical and into British humor, don't hesitate to buy, I've seen the special edition DVD for less than $15 at walmart before. England should be very proud of what they have accomplished with this movie, us Americans admire it a lot.
