I went and saw Moneyball last night and I have to say that it might be the worst movie I have seen in years!!! Pitt's character had no substance, even with the cheesey flashbacks. Don't get me started on the very very very cheesey (and not sappy) scenes with his daughter singing. Jonah Hill has spent his whole acting career playing dopey stupid characters. So, now he shows up in Moneyball and we are to believe that he has graduated from Yale with a degree in econimics... And just because he says he did and they show him sitting in front of a computer 3 times. At no time in the movie do I think he shows even the slightest amount of intellegents. I am not sure his character graduated junior high, much less Yale.
And another thing, you would think that he invented the use of statistics in baseball... They have been using statistics in baseball since baseball became a sport.
And another thing, what was with the focus on the 3 specific players? None of the 3 had any contribution to the success of the team
And another thing, were ment to feel bad for Pitt's character because he got to spend several season in the majors playing a game he loved and getting paid for it??? I hate that idea in any movie. It is hard for me to feel sorry for him when got the opportunity that most of us only dream about.
Here is my final thought, at one point in the movie I felt like I was watching the next sequal to the movie Major League. Then at another point I felt like I was watching the next Karate Kid (Pitt as Mr. Meagiue and Hill as Danialson). Every scene was so formulaic and generic. This a complete mis-representation of how a baseball team really works. The characters had nothing to add. The story was poorly written and the script even worse. Pitt is a pretty good actor, but even he cannot take a bad script and make it work. Jonah Hill was the completely wrong person for his part.
I am a true lover of baseball and I hated this movie.
