I'm a big Oakland A's fan. So that added extra interest in this movie. As a movie, as entertainment, I thought it was mediocre at best. The pacing was too slow, too many "throw away" scenes and moments that would have been best left on the cutting room floor. There is so little drama in this movie that it is really difficult to stay interest.
From a baseball perspective, it is full if irony. The movie celebrates one of the most disastrous trades in Oakland A's history, namely that of Tony Pena who went on to be one of the top power hitters in baseball. The movie also comes out at a time when Billy Beane has put together a string of horrible teams filled with under-achieving, overpaid, useless players. So I think from a historical perspective, Beane's success in that 2 year span shown in the movie, was barely a blip on the radar, and is certainly dwarfed by the mediocrity that has filled the rest of his GM career.
