Inside baseball has been a cliche bosses use to criticize things. "Ah, that's to 'inside baseball' for our audience to care ... etcetera." Ah, but here's a movie about the inside workings of inside baseball and it worked. A lesson in cybermetrics, how baseball's scouting and trades work? Sounds boring on paper, right? On the screen, however, it is a compelling biopic and invite into a world few have seen. Billy Beane changed the world of baseball out of necessity; that's how powerful change usually happens. I'm sure Pitt didn't come at the league minimum salary, but the investment paid off. This inglorious basterd showed his smart and soft side and, no doubt, Oscar will be calling. Go. Learn. Be entertained, and see how complicated things can be unwound on screen into a simple and well-told story.
