Midnight in Paris(2011)- User Reviews

Not up to the usual Woody Allen standard

As a fan of many of Woody Allen's movies, I was excited to see this one. But, unfortunately, I left feeling disappointed. The opening credits with music and shots of Paris was good for a minute or two but stretched on and on. Finally when the story started, it was flat and kind of boring. The main characters seemed to have no reason to be in Paris, except to disagree with each other and everyone they met along the way.

The time travel scenes were fun to watch, but I am always leery of portrayals of famous people. Owen Wilson's character met them when they were at a certain point in their lives and careers (the 1920s) but Wilson treated them as celebrities, when if he had really met them then, they wouldn't have created much of anything yet, or have been necessarily considered great.

I liked the theme, one man's search for happiness in the Paris of today or the Paris of yesterday, and comes to realize what will work for him. There were some good performances but I still found it slow and a little dull at times.
