From the time of birth,Matilda was ignored by her parents and called a "mistake".
All thru life Matilda had to fend for herself,learning on her own and walking ten blocks to the nearest library,et. And anytime she made any sort of comment,Matilda was chastised harshly.
Her parents went so far as to never enrol her in any school.Later,when Matilda did go to class she amazed her teacher by doing well despite the punative environment.There,she also perfected her ESP talent.Toward the end of the movie the parents even allow her to be hurriedly adopted off while they flee the country.huh!
While the movie is ofcourse fantasy,it is often disrespectful and cruel to the idea and innocence of childhood.
It is not at all screen-worthy and a movie "mistake" as well.
Grade C- for cruel,callous and coarse
