Looked like the director watched a similar horror story that are dime a dozen, then caught flu and hallucinated through repetitive feverish nightmare with images of the same thing coming back like a stain on the ceiling.
And I don't mean it in a good way.
The script simply didn't know where else to roll, the spooky stuff became so annoying, you were compelled to react like "oh, it's you again? Want some fruit punch"... and for Christ sakes, what was this sci-fi in the end so many people mention? There was no sci-fi - do you even know what it stands for?
So if you want to see something of this kind but scary and coherent, and not laughable, watch The Grudge I and II - this is the same story, just re-shot in a very bad way.
