I expected a serious, syrup dripping story of unrequited love but I was pleasantly surprised. Depending on your point of view, the characters got exactly what they needed.
Florentino loses Fermina but gets to have tons of sex to soothe his broken heart. Even as an older man he has young women coming to his bed.
Fermina gets to marry a handsome young doctor and live in Paris for many years with Benjamin Bratt (smokin hotness). They both suffer the loss of "soulmate." but what a way to suffer.
52 years later, after Fermina becomes widow, she reunites with Florentino, her soulmate and lives sexually everafter at the age of 72. Florentino still has the hots for her and Fermina now appreciates him more.
Now what woman would be upset about that life. The perfect recipe for love.
I loved this movie. The critics made a bad call on this one.
