Synopsis

When New York City interior designer Patsy Newquist sees a man being beaten in the street and cannot reach the police, she intervenes herself. At first, she is appalled by the passive reaction of the victim, photographer Alfred Chamberlain, who showed no resistance to the beating. But after talking, she invites him in and they soon start seeing each other. Patsy takes Alfred home to meet her parents during a siege of random shootings in the city, and as her family tries to understand this indifferent young man, they are all swept up in the world of senseless violence that surrounds them.
