PBS Special Mimicking a Movie

star22

My daughter and I walked out of this movie after an hour. Frankly, it was boring. I've read books on Lincoln that were more exciting than this piece of filmmaking that can only appeal to historians and those who liked Amistad. I go to the movies to be entertained and to escape. I made the mistake of going to this film thinking it was going to be exciting like one of my favorite books about Lincoln's assasination: Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer by James Swanson. This movie should have been a PBS special. I think my opinion is simply not the politically correct one, but I am entitled to it. Should have seen Skyfall.

Thank you to the one person below who realized that I took my daughter, who is 12, to Lincoln. If I was alone, I would have stuck it out. My comments above are simply a feeling I had in a situation where my daughter simply couldn't follow the "depth" of the politics portrayed and I didn't think it was necessary to subject her further when we "went to the movies" to have a good time. My daughter, by the way, is a straight A student who is interested in history. This movie was just too slow and stuffy for her. I will likely give this film another chance when it gets to Netflix. Hopefully I won't fall asleep. I'm a big fan of Daniel Day Lewis, by the way, so his portrayal is likely award-worthy. However, I'm not one of those filmgoers who is in constant awe of the technical brilliance of a performance. It's pretentious to put the performance above the story, IMO.
