Despite a remarkable performance by Daniel Day Lewis as Abraham Lincoln, ultimately this movie was more about politics than a great man and leader. I would rather have seen a movie about the man behind the 13th amendment rather than a movie about the amendment behind the man. Under Spielberg's direction, much of the tedious politicking is made cutesy and overly dramatic. It may have helped make the two and a half hour drama easier to sit through, but after all the campaigning and endless TV ads of the past two years, both my wife and I have had enough.
