Like a bad penny, Lincoln just keeps showing up in everything these days....even on the bad penny. For Pete's sake he's even a vampire killer this year.
This movie is a refreshing change of the usual movie about Lincoln, but that's probably because it isn't really about Lincoln. The movie is more about the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery than Lincoln. Naturally, calling it Lincoln is a better marketing move than to call it "Abolishing Slavery" though I do find it misleading. Now, the story of the 13th Amendment is an interesting story in its own right and I enjoyed seeing it in some historical context. Unfortunately, I'm not sure it's a story worth the length accorded to it in this movie, so it was a bit slow but interesting nonetheless.
I added a star to my rating if for no other reason than hopefully that black Americans will finally realize that it was a Republican that emancipated them and forced the 13th Amendment through passage and will begin to realize that Republicans are not evil rascists, but rather a group of people that want to see each of us rise in stature to the extent of our abilities and effort.
Worth the watch, but nothing spectacular and even if it wins some awards out of political correctness, it will not be remembered as anything special once out of theaters in the months/years to come....it will just be another penny in a handful of change.
