It really puts you there!

Sometimes, a movie comes along that powerfully takes you out of your seat in a theater and drops you squarely into the action. Well, Lincoln has done that better than any movie I have seen in a very long time.

Daniel Day Lewis is so convincing as Lincoln, and Spielberg's direction so professional, that for two hours, you ARE in the White House watching Abraham Lincoln struggle to get the 13th Amendment passed, while agonizing over the war and trying to console his distraught wife, played perfectly by Sally Field. You see what they see. You ARE by his side as you listen to the political arguments of slavery's proponents and abolitionists. You are there in the Capitol in the viewer gallery as emotional men debate what is the crowning achievement of Lincoln ... to maneuver and push through a final end to slavery. You see the struggles on their faces, and the tenseness of their jaws. This is not a movie ... it is a time machine ... and its production has so realistically brought us back to that time and place that you want to go have a drink afterward in a Washington pub, just to celebrate one of the nation's most nail-biting political victories. I had no idea this battle had raged in the halls of Congress to this extent, until this wonderful film brought the drama to life.

I dearly hope this film garners all the Oscars that it deserves. By any means possible, go see it.
