Daniel Day-Lewis brings Lncoln to life. The movie is not a typical biography. You can learn lots about the younger Lincoln through the dialogue as Lincoln reflects on his past often, but it is not expicitly shown in the movie. The story is about the politics of ending the Civil War and passing the 13th Amendment. I learned a lot about history (relevance of the Emancipation Proclamation, etc). While being historical it also is a very personal movie about the man, his family, and the times. Excellent suppoting cast and cinematograhy help make this the Best Picture winner at the Oscars...I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
