Unfortunately while most people understand that Life of Pi is a movie about God. (They say so in the movie.) What many miss is that the story is full of allegory describing Vedanta theology. One example; Richard Parker is Pi's own animalistic nature. Without him, Pi could not have survived. But while they where torn apart neither ate much. Pay attention to what happens when they come together. (I do not want to spoil it.) Very well done, good acting, great visuals. Highly recommend.
