I read the book so I was really looking forward to the movie and was not disappointed at all , even when the movie strayed from the book.
It think this movie can be compared to Cast Away, only better because this young boy has to survive under even greater duress than Tom Hanks had to face in Cast Away.
The story really starts when Pi is lost at sea with a Tiger and 3 other wild animals that survived the ship wreck that killed his entire family. Lost at sea for over 200 days Pi struggles to stay alive largely because of the fish he catches and the supplies of food he found on board the life boat but the tricky part is trying to not becoming a meal for the Tiger in the process. There have been references to cannibalism here and there, however, the only cannibalism was in the book (it was cut from the film) when another stranded person wanted to kill PI and eat him but instead he was eaten by the Tiger. Other than that, this movie is about being strong, resourceful and not giving up. Great film go see.
