I know the story and at first I did not have the desire to see it but when I saw it, I have to go back and see it the second and third time. I was hooked. Not it did not have some minor flaws, but the music is magnificent. Hugh Jackman is superb especially on the scene with the monsignor and then he went out of the convent on top of the hill and ripped his parole paper and it flew into the clouds. That is the best scene and the director should be commended for that. Both Jackman and Hathaway did justice to their roles. My only regret is Amanda Seyried's role should have been developed more. Eponine has the meatiier scenes and Samantha Barks can really emote and sing. Russel Crowe is a good actor but not in this musical. Stars song is a torch number and should have been his given to an actor/singer who can really belt and Russel's voice was just drowned by the orchestra. There were some light moments like the cafe scenes and Thenardier Inn. This movie is 5 stars and Jackman should win the Oscars for the Best Actor
