Russell Crow is an excellent actor, looks the part, and played his part very well. However, his singing is not the quality we come to expect in musicals. His pitch was okay, but his voice is not the professional, polished, powerful voice that you hear …more»0 of 0 people found this review helpful-

Generally, the picture was outstanding with one exception: Russell Crowe was NOT Javert!!! Especially, after viewing the 25th Anniversary DVD which there was a marvelous Javert played by a young man of color. He demonstrated such furor within himself, …more»1 of 1 people found this review helpful-

I loved this movie at lot. The music was all good and well written. The singing performances was amazing and I was stunned to find out that they were actually singing on camera instead of lip singing to a sound track! This is my first movie review ever. Sad to say it's not one of praise. I went to see this film with my mother last night. We had heard that the movie, like the play, was fabulous. So, with high expectations we settled in for something truly great. …more»3 of 5 people found this review helpful-

Had to see it to make sense of the divergent opinions. Also thought big screen was the way to see a big musical like this. For me, though, it didn't meet the hype. It was indeed raw, but seemed more like an a capella dress rehearsal. Most of the …more»0 of 0 people found this review helpful-

Les Mis is my all time favorite musical so i am a bit critical, but as far as the direction, cinemetography, and acting go it is superb. It is clearly an Oscar worthy picture. They did a fantastic job of recreating mid 19th century France with the sets, …more»1 of 1 people found this review helpful-

All the characters did their roles in top notch fashion.
The most surprising was that of Russell Crowe as
Inspector Javert. He did an outstanding job and is not a bad singer to boot!
All the rest of the actors were also superb.
