If you're looking for a tear-jerker this is it. I'd say this production sacrifices some music quality to emotionalism but it's pretty good stuff if you're in the mood and if you like this sort of musical. I loved it.
Only a few quibbles:

There are a lot of negative reviews for this film, but I thought it was very moving and entertaining. Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway steal the movie for the most part--Russell Crow does a decent job as well, though, I think his voice is weaker that Hathaway's …more»3 of 3 people found this review helpful-

I saw the film this afternoon and was mesmerised from start to finish. I have seen the show and have played the soundtrack for many years. Once you are a fan of " les Mis " you are hooked. For me the star was the young lad at the barricade …more»1 of 1 people found this review helpful-

I am familiar with the story and the music. My step daughter and wife are heavy into theater (both watching and acting) and musical theater.
When they heard it was coming to the theater I knew that I would be seeing the latest reincarnation of one of …more»6 of 19 people found this review helpful-

The Best of the Best, the cream of the crop! At 1st I thought of walking out, all that singing not for me (I like tough action movies). But now I Love it and will see it again, So Great! You end up even liking the bad guy. You have to go see this even …more»1 of 1 people found this review helpful-

It could have better cast with actors who could sing rather than using famous faces. the 1998 movie already covered it well enough. This made me not want to see Les Miserables ever again.

Les Misérables has it's good moments, where it made me laugh, cry, sigh, etc. But then it had many more moments where I was antsy in my seat because I was bored...
Hugh Jackman's Jean Val Jean was raw and powerful, but his singing voice is lacking. …more»0 of 0 people found this review helpful
