This is not so much a movie about the origins of the NFL as it is a good, old-fashioned romantic comedy.

There is a fair enough treatment of the football aspect, but this movie is ALL about the characters. Well drawn characters ably portrayed by good actors, a fun (albeit predictable) script and one of the better examples that they CAN make movies "the way they used to".
