A basically engaging story filled with potential was ruined by poor directing and a messy, cartoonish performance by Renee Zellweger.
Clooney's usual subtle adeptness is absent -- he performs at half his capacity, or maybe the director didn't tell him it wasn't a rehearsal.
Jonathon Pryce is wasted here -- what could have been an interesting demi-villain is turned to one-dimensional slimeball....
The only likable person in the film is John Krazinski's character, and he gets turned into victim and foil by the snarky "heroine" and her cardboard boss. Hopefully Krazinski will get future roles that use his considerable talents far better.
Football scenes drag and the attempt at snappy "old movie" style dialogue is embarassing.
I'm so glad I bought this DVD in the "pre-viewed 4 for $20" bin, because it's a stinker.
