OK, but Flawed Comedy...Read On...

This film stars two of the biggest lights in Hollywood (Hanks and Roberts), so it should have been better. The script (by Nia Vardalos of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" fame) suffers from a couple of logical flaws that sort of ruined the film for me. First of all, Hanks plays aa very competant manager at a WalMart-like superstore. They fire him for not having a college degree! Unlikely. Second, Hanks goes to college, and the second flaw--he links up with a scooter gang. Again, unlikely. Julia Roberts goes through the motions as a burned out professor of speech, looking as if she wishes she were elsewhere. She is married to a loser (Cranston, star of TVs hit "Breaking Bad"). It would have been cool if Cranston had a meth lab going on the side, like he does on the TV show. Now that would have been funny. Of course, Hanks and Roberts make a connection, but the chemistry isn't there. There are a few laughs, but not many. A generous B minus.
