Not an Accurate Church Portrayal

star33

Within the first 5 minutes of the movie I had my first disappointment: Cursing in the chior room. Also, two of the choir members realized their attraction to each other, and slept together that night. There was more. My point is, I did not expect a church choir movie to be like any secular movie.

That being said, the music was pretty good. I really enjoy Queen Latifah. Why do I have to have a minimium character review? I have nothing else to say?

Churches are not perfect because the people in them aren't. Unfortunately, people lose focus of what is important--BUT his movie is just that...a movie. it is supposed to be entertaining. Perhaps the movie can serve as a lesson?

Don't waste your breath, Annette. I've gone to church for decades with these "blind" holier-than-thou people. She's too afraid to look at her own to reality, so she picks apart everyone else's. Her life is the one everyone doesn't talk about because no one knows where to start!. "Love the sinner; not the sin."

Free of sex? Really Refreshing Alice? One of my biggest complaints was the two members of the choir hooking up, as in having sex.

The music was outstanding, going to buy the soundtrack! Actors were AWESOME! Can't wait to add the DVD to our collection! Christians can definitley relate to this movie. It had a great storyline. We LOVED it!!

The movie was very uplifting and true to realty. Not fair to hope God passed it by. Maybe you would have more fun attending the latest Vampire click.

If you dont like Dolly or Queen, why did you go see the movie? Just so you could talk bad of both of them! My Grandpa aways told me "If you dont have anything good to say, them dont say anything"

I wanted to see a good wholesome movie for once. This was despicable.

Amen, Michael. I was raised to believe the same thing. If you can't say something good about somebody, then don't say anything, and that includes a movie.

I appreciate people's honest opinions. Isn't this what "user reviews" is for??

Loved it. Made me want to sing and dance with them. If you want to be filled with the lord's spirit you'll find it with those young performers.

Thanks Sonya, I got the same feeling just watching the trailers. Hope to go see it today.

The music is great in this movie! I think you need to have an open mind when you see it! Dolly and Queen are good! They re a natural on stage! The choir is great! So its not great acting! But I think you would enjoy this movie!

I seen this movie this past weekend with my Wife. She enjoyed the movie a lot more than I did. I'd give it a b- as a grade. It was painful at times to watch, but had a few humorous lines in it.

It was not worth seeing. That is Not Gospel music or nothing like it. It is contemporary music. This movie had that "sister act" feel. and sure enough even right up to the end the robes came off during their competition singing. For a church gospel choir and people who are supposed to be christians, fornication and cussing didn't seem to bother them at all. But this is Hollywoods version on Christians. Waste of money, I am sorry I went.

Thankful to finding God, the real God who loves me in spite of unrighteousness, who knows I will never live up to the rules man has contrived to represent righteousness. Whoa to the man who believes their ego (easing God out) and thinks they have lived up to the righteousness they have contrived to be equal to God! No matter how "good" I am, I know I will never live up to God's holiness nor man's theory of righteousness!!

Thanks for the word on this movie. Was reading reviews to take my 9 year old daughter to, and boy I'm glad I read these. Dan, I'm praying for you. BTW, it's not a pedestal, it's grounded in the Truth.

Granted Dolly's procedures have reached a limit. However, the movie was uplifting, smile inducing, toe tapping and humorous. Pretty shallow reason not to enjoy a film. Here's hoping that your nightmares never get beyond this, then you will really be BLESSED. Good luck!!

You're right, Linda. I'm a Christian and I enjoyed the movie for what it was--pure entertainment fluff. I don't always want a message in every movie. Sometimes I just want to have fun and the humor and music was just that. This movie will win no awards but it will have you dancing in the aisles and make you smile. For that, it was worth the admission price. I do miss Dolly's dimples, though. Her facial expressions are severely hampered and it was a distraction that made me sad for her.

Get over it. You should feel fortunate that this can qualify as one of your worst experiences.

Poor thing, that you should spend $10 and lose an hour. The music and humor was very good. There were also messages for all to consider.

really, how did you see that in this movie? Because, this movie really missed it on all fronts! Accountability for you actions, cursing in church, talking back to your parents, running off and not to mention the winning is more important than God! I really would like to know what movie you were watching to think this was a family film.

Recommend "Time Changer" to put this movie in perspective and to understand that in our day, the culture has invaded the church and our salt and light are compromised. This is Hollywood's view of church life, just as the NBC TV series based upon the excellent movie, Friday Night Lights revised the Christian message into something else.
