Joyeux Noel is a film that should be excellent and has every right to be but finishes as only so-so. It has a terrific storyline about during WWI how the French, Scottish, and German troops declared a cease-fire on the Christmas day but portray nowhere near as well as they should. For one, the film's main characters (one of which being Diane Kruger, more well known from the National Treasure series) cannot hold the film together to make it the powerful piece it could. The director for a long time makes it appear to be like an opera at times which can tend to get incredibly annoying. The strength of the film is that it's minor characters truly deliver and add some variety in the film. Not what you'd expect but if you see for free on tv sometime, don't shy away.
