I read all the books, and I'm really looking forward to the movie!

I read John Carter, the princess of Mars etc some 35 years ago. I did not have the luck, good or bad to see the bad B movies or the comics. However I got carried away by the imagination of E.R. All this is, is a remake of a bad B-moive that I saw a couple of years ago. It was also the same bad B-moive that give the idea for the movie Pandora to be made. John Carter was the 11th book in a series of 11. The Martian series by E.R. Burroughs, written in 1912. It was a thoughly imaginative and colorful science fiction series ahead of the times. With regard to the previous review: The story is set after the American Civil War. It's not likely that John Carter would be buff per se, but more likely that he would be a trim fighting man. I find no fault in the casting here.
