Jane Eyre(2011)- User Reviews

Total failure

star11

It seems like every element is there, like good actors and beautiful cinematography, but somehow this movie fails to move me.

There is lots of intelligence, as many of the reviewers say, but no passion. And besides, all the "intelligence" is in the dialogue written by the original novelist. The director adds nothing new, and the actors just seem like they are reciting the dialoge and not really feeling it.

The Masterpiece Theater version of Jane Eyre is much better, though it's just a made-for-TV miniseries. I would definitely recommend it over this one.

I have seen this version (2011) and love it.

I only saw the clips of this movie and that was enough alone to make me rate it as the direst version out. Wooden acting just reciting the lines. Where was the feeling and the understanding from the actors of their characters,

I will say that the 2006 version for the BBC with Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens was the best one ever. It had you caught up in their world. You felt that what they were saying and each look given was just right for the scene.

I only have one down side to say about that version and its small. I would have liked to see more than just their heads in various scenes. He takes her hands in several of them and I want to see that as it holds clues as to what they are feeling and I think it might have added a bit more to the scene in general.

Forget the 2011 version and check out the 2006 version instead. Its on you tube (goldenivy17 has uploaded it) I loved this so much that I bought the dvd and it was well worth it.
