I went alone to see this as my family had been turned off by bad previews. It was much better than expected, with very good pacing, a believable romantic subplot, despicable villains, and a rousing finally. For this genre of fantasy, the story is well drawn and executed. One complaint heard was that it didn't follow the original Jack and the beanstalk fable, but that proved to be a strength as this story was more flushed out with subplots not in the original fable. I've tired of seeing films in 3D as it's like watching film through sunglasses. See it in 2D. There's plenty of special "believable"effects. Not for little children as the giants could be too scary.
