If you peruse the list of posters who pitched a fit when it became known that Cruise was playing Reacher you will see me in there figuratively screaming my disgust. Too little, wrong voice, everything I could think of was just WRONG!
Mr. Cruise, I owe you an apology. I'm grown. I say that just so readers don't think I'm some kid with no life who sits at his computer 24/7. My 18 yo son and I went to see the movie. We both have read all 13 books in paperback, and will have the new one as soon as paperback printing occurs. Cruise pulls off Reacher perfectly. The movie doesn't focus on the physicality of Reacher. It plays to the cerebral aspects of the character at least 50% of the time, which is something most Reacher fans I have spoken with miss about the books. Reacher is the smartest person in the room and doesn't throw it in your face, he leads you to figure it out for yourself. The movie does a great job of showing this.
Giants like Reacher, 6'5", 250, can't move through society unnoticed. Normal people can. And for those of you that have never tussled with a Army MP, consider this. I had 6 inches and 45 pounds on one. Thank God we were family just fooling around. We were going about 80% of full speed and I still was sore for 3 weeks.
