Jack Reacher- User Reviews

Better than expected.

I didn't totally expect what I got. I myself have not read the book(s), and the trailer sort of gave me a formula'ed actioner feel. What I got was an extremely tense thriller that never let me get comfortable.

While the catalyst was nothing new-a person is arrested for a heinous offense and seemingly irrefutable evidence points directly at him even though we know him to be innocent-the accused, by communicating to the police with only a note asking for Jack, sets off a chain of events that peel away layers of plot like an onion.

It isn't a traditional whodunit. We barely learn the names of the antagonists, and it is obvious that this is never really important. The why is the key, and we learn this precisely as fast as Jack does.

The score, Jack's mannerisms and methods, and the cold brutality of the antagonists all serve to make the viewer uneasy. You keep trying to like Jack, but he is not interested in whether you like him. At times he is as blunt, cold and tactless as the people he is tracking.

This is a good movie. Engrossing, entertaining, exactly what a movie should be. I don't like everything Cruise stars in. He did well with this one.
