Peter Capaldi is the only purpose on why this movie is hysterical. His performance is hilarious and the hype I've heard and all the clips involved him. So that's why I wanted to see this. But when I finally came across to renting this barely funny and overlong political comedy, I realized that the British humor wasn't sticking and I only found myself laughing at Capaldi-when he was pissed-which was basically the whole movie.
I sincerely do not even know what went wrong with this movie. I have a few ideas. 1. Maybe the humor didn't work. Every joke seemed to be tame and unfunny. There were a few scenes that made my gut hurt because of laughing, but that was only once every 10-15 minutes. The pacing is a real burden in this movie.
All and all, with the performance of James Gandolfini and the hysterical Peter Capaldi, In the Loop calls for two very funny performance actors. Other than that, the movie is flat.
In the Loop: ** 1/2 stars. 7/10.
Not Rated. (Probably rated R for vulgar language throughout.)
nonstop graphic and vulgar profanity and obsinities.
