Okay, first this is NOT a kiddie movie. It's sort of a dedication to early movies by a serious movie maker in cartoon form.
Oh, and the 3-D is a waste (see below). See the 2-D version.
As for the movie ... Well, it's very visually good. It was odd to see a LOT of classic movie characters in the film in background shots. While most of the major characters were visually the actors playing them, there were a LOT of classic movie characters that kept popping up in the background. (Just casual glances of "I think I recognise that character" appearances, NOT cameos.)
And the story was nice, if a little long at times. Let's face it, this was mainly a good film that instead of using F/X to make some things happen, they used CGI. Hope do you rate acting by a computer (hence why my ratings differ from the final rating).
As for the 3-D, it's a lot of "this tree is behind that tree" effects. Few items coming off the screen at you. Or maybe I just see in 3-D all the time so seeing a giant face coming off the screen doesn't impress me.
So: DO NOT TAKE little kids to see this. Teenagers who understand history, yes. But kids wanting to see a cartoon, NO!
