I was sure that with 2 good--no, 2 GREAT actors--this would be a very good film. I was let down.
Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep were awesome--as expected.
Parts of this movie rang very true: After 31 years of marriage, husband and wife fall away from each other, stop 'looking' and 'touching.' The magic ends. That's a fact of life in many marriages and is what happens in this film.
HOWEVER, what it really comes down to, in this film, is they grew apart simply due to lack of sex. They really had no other problems in their marriage--other than no sex.
And of course, once they have sex, everything in life is all happy again.
This movie could have and should have been better.
I'm no prude but to hear Tommy Lee and Meryl Streep talking opnely about 3 somes, scenes where they are pleasuing themselves and most embarrasing of all--oral sex in a theatre.
Hard to watch as it is. But then to make it appear that a very troubled marriage can be saved by 1 nite of sex. Sure, ok.
What also made it unbelivable is that they travelled 1500 miles from Omaha to Maine--simply to talk to a sex therapist--and spent $4000 to do it. Apparently there are no therapists in Omaha. And on top of that, the sex therapits didnt even help.
Good acting--but bad plot. I'm giving it 1 star simply due to good acting
