Great performance, not only for the director but especially the two leading ladies Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey, the latter having no theater experience at the time when this film was made (and she was 16 years old) and yet she does an excellent job. This is also a remarkable thing about this movie: two actresses in their first movie role, one of them inexperienced!
The movie is one of the most impressive ones I have ever seen. It's a sad story, knowing from the beginning how it will end, and especially the fact that the real Pauline and Juliet have never met again during and after they had served their sentence, is tragical. You wish it all had taken another turn with no murder and no separation.
The fantasy sequences and the music with the singing of Mario Lanza are captivating. You will feel uneasy viewing this film, and moved at the same time, and will surely never forget it. Compare with other movies, as is requested in Tips & Guidelines? I wouldn't know anyone to compare!
