I didn't like this movie, but for some bizarre reason I've watched it three times and found myself having fun while doing it. Why? I have no idea, but time to get to the review.
The plot involves the eighteen-year-old son of a CIA agent who gets wrapped up in his father's problems. First, assassins kill his dorm mate, then his mother and stepfather, and finally he is forced to go on the run and locate his father's old Special Forces buddies. The story's not great, but it isn't bad either; it's just told in a nearly incomprehensible manner.
The acting is a mix of tolerable and painful. I'm sure you picked up or have considered picking up the movie because Sandra Bullock has her very first role in this action flick, but her acting is very weak in this movie. The only real standouts are Rick Washburne as the boy's father, J. Christian Ingvordsen as a dangerously unstable friend of Washburne, and Sam Silver as another of the former Special Forces commandos, though he gets unfortunate little screen time.
The movie really falters with the pacing. Things happen and you aren't sure why, or they happen and they don't make any sense, or worse yet they don't happen when they should have. I should also note that the musical score is good at times but wretchedly annoying at others.
The action scenes are a mixed bag as well, like most of the movie. Some of them are decent, well put-together efforts, and some are ignorable wastes of time. At least if you're a gun buff you'll find lots of fun firearms all over the place.
All in all, I cannot in any way recommend this movie, yet for some reason I've watched it three times now. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, or maybe I just like incredibly cheesy action movies, either way this one isn't worth your precious time. Unless by some miracle you think like me.
