A few people tend to walk into video stores and rent videos because there's only few that are on the shelf. Most would prefer to select the largely popular Hollywood movies that are ignorant in concept or that lack in any logic or common sense, but since it's so popular they just have to get it. Sure at times they are just propaganda, but surprisingly enough, they often select a film that will enlighten you to some extent.
"Greenfingers" is a film that will not only enlighten you, but it will also inspire you that even the lowliest of people (in this case prisoners) deserve a second shot to grow. And not just flowers, but a new lease on life. Sure this movie isn't without its share of trials and tribulations, added with some romance and lust to carry the film along one's new path of self discovery. The characters portrayed in "Greenfingers" are diverse in quirkiness, the scenes flow smoothly and amusingly at the same time and the presentation is handled in a subtle manner. The cinematography is sight for sore eyes and the gardening depicted here is so beautiful, it'll inspire you to open up a garden and start planting seeds yourself.
I liked how they avoid typecasting a warden, who wasn't a maniacal brutal antagonist who abuses his power. The romance between Colin Briggs (Clive Owen) and Primrose Woodhouse (Natasha Little) flows with the story and not padded for chick-flick lovers. It comes to a shocking turn that you actually have prisoners that are likable and not a bunch of scary brutish bullies who are capable of striking at the blink of an eye. Anyways, see this film for yourself, it's a refreshing break from comedies that depend on toilet humor or over-the-top zany characters. I'm sure you'll enjoy this movie with a passion.
