"Gray Lady Down" is the equivalent to the "Airport" disaster movies of the 1970's. Just as those were very good castastrophe type movies, this falls in line the same as a very interesting story of how the sailors and their brave captain survive the ordeal and how the U.S. Navy rescues them. The only negative is the acting of a then-unknown actor named Christopher Reeve (a.k.a. "Superman") who did a poor acting job in this one. Ned Beatty was seriously miscast (physically), too, but he did a fine enough acting job to overcome it. Overall, a very good movie; so much so, that I purchased it. I hadn't seen it since '78, but saw it again today after all those years.
