A Good Day to Die Hard(2013)- User Reviews

John Moore killed a legend

I've been a fan of Die Hard since the first. None of the sequels will ever match the original but they all have the same feel, the same excitement and we've come to expect something from the Die Hard format over the years. For the first time in the series, the formula was simply dropped. Everything about Die Hard is lost on this director, if you can call him a director (John Moore). I have been vying for another Die Hard for quite some time but John Moore missed the mark so badly that I want to pretend that this one never existed! McLane's catch phrase is simply thrown in wherever they could cram it and when it comes up there's no reason for him to actually say it (He says "yippee ki yay" as he’s getting into a car).

The story was so weak, that at points I wasn't sure why they were going where they were going or what the point was of what they were doing. At one point McLane and his son lose track of the bad guys and seem to have hit a dead end. As they talk, they decide to go to Chernobyl. When they arrive the villain is there and I wondered if McLane was psychic. The only point in the movie that I actually enjoyed was the "Fire hose moment" which is in every movie and surprisingly was ok in this one.

Each movie in the past has ended with the camera panning out and up to go into the credits in typical Die Hard format. We had no attachment to any of the characters by the end of them movie, regardless, there was a cheesy meaningless family like ending that completely deviated from the original format. This was topped off by ridiculous "feel good" music and a fade out that made me question if this movie was meant to be something completely different originally. It felt like McLane was thrown in and they slapped the Die Hard label on at the last minute. There was no way I was going to have a “Feel good” moment at the end of watching a movie that was this bad.

Ridiculous camera shots, bad camera work, indiscernible audio during action scenes, bad writing, horrible editing, a travesty of a director all contribute to one of the most disgraceful movies ever made. I wished for a new Die Hard movie and now I'm wishing this one never existed. Apparently McLane is a Die Hard until he runs into John Moore who seems to have killed him very easily.
