Good, but sleep-inducing and racist, pro-slavery

I suppose the millions who saw this film over the last 65 years can't all be wrong, it is a classic.

However, it always put me to sleep. Recently it was on TV & my wife wanted to watch it. I actually stayed awake - although I didn't see very much of it (busy doing yard work). The parts I saw were well done, but shockingly racist. The south was "Noble" & the North & Abraham Lincoln were scoundrels. Slaves were mostly happy with their lot under the kind masters. One slave, Prissy, was portrayed as perhaps the silliest, most annoying, and incompetent person in history. When Clark Gable says that the old South died today, I responded out loud "GOOD!!!!" The noble purpose of the war was to end slavery, from the North. It's too bad the old south managed to set up Jim Crow after Lincoln was murdered by a southerner. I was rather hoping the former slaves would take over the farm & put Scarlet to work in the fields. That would have been justice!

I asked around and found out the biased portrayal in this movie was controversial even back in 1939. However, they say it is toned down from the novel. I'm glad to say that the racist elements of this movie would never fly today.
