Just caught this on HBO. Was not expecting much, as had never heard of it b4. Huh? Cute, funny, touching and REAL. (Without being depressing.) LOVED the backdrop of the music/newspaper biz "in flux" (That's putting it mildly.) Loved the music, loved the supporting characters, loved the leads, loved the script. Perfect. Beautiful, smart direction by Nanette Burstein of the 'leave the camera running that actor is about to do something interesting/funny/outrageous’ kind. Ah! Interesting, she directs documentaries. That makes a ton of sense. This movie is of the Judd Apatow school in terms of raunchiness (but in this case almost all verbal & with a decent share of wit) also much less formulaic and far more believable. Great job. Does not deserve the crap critical rating.
